BONIVA is a prescription medicine used for osteoporosis treatment in women after menopause. BONIVA may reverse bone loss by stopping more loss of bone and increasing bone mass in most women who take it, even though they won’t be able to see or feel a difference. BONIVA may help lower the chance of breaking bones (fractures). For BONIVA to treat osteoporosis, you have to take it as prescribed. BONIVA will not work if you stop taking it. BONIVA may cause serious problems in the stomach and the esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth and stomach). These problems may include trouble swallowing, heartburn, and ulcers. You must take BONIVA exactly as prescribed for BONIVA to work for you and to lower the chance of serious side effects. Common side effects with BONIVA are diarrhea, pain in the extremities (arms or legs), and dyspepsia (upset stomach).
